Terra cotta plate, 50 cms diameter. In about 1994 Bhupen asked Mr. Akhil Admed, teacher of sculpture at MS University, to show him how to work with clay. Bhupen produced this plate, which he gifted to Mr. Ahmed. Conservation work on it was done at my request by Mr. Chandrashekar Patil in December 2016.

Untitled, ceramic plate, 26 cm diameter Message from Norman Trapman in the Netherlands 25th April 2015: "I first saw Bhupen's paintings in Kassel's Documenta. He was then a few years later in Holland in the European Ceramic Work Center in Den Bosch. He was invited there with a grant from Holland if I remember well through Mrs. E. Schoo. She was a Dutch politican and also an ambassador from Holland in Delhi. I know the European Ceramic Work Centre very well; it is an artists' residency. I was in the Boa some years, and I teach part time in the Art School in Den Bosch. I visited Bhupen in his studio and invited him to come to my studio to paint on ceramic plates. In the studio in Ben Bosch he was working on sculptueral pieces. He then visited me several times and stayed with me and my wife. ] He painted plates every day until late afternoon. Then we drank whiskey, and he cooked for us several times. He liked to cook and to explain to us how to make Indian dishes. We also made several trips to exhibitions. I remember we visited the graduation show of the art school in Amsterdam. Bhupen was very interested to see everything and to question students about their ideas. He was very eager to explore all of contemporary art in Holland. And we talked about art, India, Holland and England. (He liked to live in London a lot and had many friends there.) I had previously been in India several times for my work for the Dutch design company Pol's Potten. They have several designs by me in their collection. And I had been in Delhi, Moradabad, for brass and aluminium, and in Firozabad for glass ware. So, next time we were in India we went from Firozabad to Baroda and stayed with him for a week in his house. We went with him around seeing friends and to Ahmadabad and later to Mumbai to a niece of Bhupen. And stayed with her for some days. After that we saw him one more time before he died. All together I have very fond memories of Bhupen. I still have a cassette with Indian music he brought with him and played while paintings in my studio. I turn it on sometimes and then think of him."

"Red Rain," 24.5 x 24.5 cms, Intaglio zinc plate for etching. Surface is protected by an acid resistant coat; reverse is also protected. Written on the reverse: "Photoengraving Plate" See etching album for the print. Unlike most printmakers, Bhupen did not like to deface or destroy plates after the printing process because he thought he might rework them at some point in the future.

Bhupen designed this invitation to his 1970 show in Delhi as a gentle joke on the elaborate wedding invitations of Gujarat. Ms. Geeta Kapur told me that he asked her and Nasreen Mohamedi to "dress like Parsi ladies" when they poured tea. Sunil Kothari kindly gave me this invitation.
